| TRAVEL NOTES
 Early
on the following morning, having explored the bay and taken photographs
in the rice fields at Pacitan, we headed north in the direction
of Ponorogo. The first third of the journey was spent winding
alongside the river Grindulu, where we were tempted to make frequent
stops. At one point we climbed down the river bank to admire
some gigantic boulders, which at some time in the distant past
must have rolled down the surrounding hillsides. On another occasion
we attempted to cross the river by way of an ancient swaying
      tension bridge.
