President Yudhoyono leads peak event of TNI anniversary

Surabaya (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono acted as inspector of the main event to observe the 63rd anniversary of National Defense Forces (TNI) at the Headquarters of the Indonesian Naval Eastern Fleet Command in Surabaya on Tuesday.
On the occasion President Yudhoyono was accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, Vice President Jusuf Kalla, and a number of cabinet ministers.
Lt Gen George Toisutta acted as the commender of the celebration participated in by around 5,554 TNI personnel, foreign countries` representatives, and retired army generals.
Various attractions such as a military parade, fly-pasts by a number of TNI aircraft and helicopters, sail-pasts by some 20 warships would be performed before the president and vice president.
In addition, around one hundred navy personnel would swim across the Madura Strait to the Eastern Fleet Command wharf in Surabaya.
A total of 3,698 personnel from the Military Academy and the TNI would take part in the attractions.
Besides the military parade and the attractions the peak event of the TNI`s 63rd anniversary would also be marked by shows or demonstrations of some of the TNI`s heavy weapons and combat vehicles.
They would consist of 16 helicopters, 31 aircraft, 20 warships, 40 tanks, 8 armored APR vehicles, 20 artilleries, two Propat Hanud missiles, 4 RM 70 Grad rockets, a ground radar, and 51 other tactical vehicles. (*)
