Penataran Temple (Blitar, East Java, Indonesia)

It is located inside the Penataran village, Nglegok subdistric, about 14 km north of the tomb’s Bung Karno (Blitar city). It is the big temple in East Java. It was built within the period of 250 years starting from 1197 AD up to 1454 AD. The building was found and built when there was Majapahit kingdom (14” century). Penataran temple was built for offering as the prove there was Inscription of Palah which was inscribed by the king of Kadiri, Srengga. Then the development was continued when there was Majapahit Kingdom, as the prove that the year inscribed there was 1347 AD at the big statue Dwarapala on the main temple (the rule era of Tribhuana Tungga Dewi) then the year temple was inscribed 1369 AD (the rule era of Hayam Wuruk) continued to last building, it was holypond with the year inscribed there was 1415 AD (the rule of Wikrama Wardhana).

The relief which was inscribed at the big temple was the story of Ramayana and Kresnayana. There were also the relief of Tantri, Sang Setyawan and Bubuksah – Gagang Aking. Penataran Temple has Hinduism and Budhism background.

There are some tourist facilities at that place, Penataran Temple, two unit of swimming pool for adult (International size) special swimming pool for children, lake, motorboat, water cycle, archaelogy museum and tennis court. All these facilities are opened everyday from 07.00 a.m to 05.00 p.m.
