Komodo Expedition |
![]() The very word conjures up thoughts of mystery and myth. A Jurassic world where rolling hillsides of savanna grassland meet long stretches of palm fringed beaches. A place where massive tectonic plates collide beneath the turquoise waters of the Flores Sea driving rugged mountains skyward. Active volcanoes and the strong currents of the Lint Straits create giant whirlpools, guarding the island from the outside world. Great reptiles bathe in the sun as the sounds of exotic birds bring the dense forest to life. This island supports a limited number of plant and animal species |
- only those who have been able to adapt to this harsh environment survived. This is the world of the Komodo Dragon, the Island of Komodo - Indonesia. Called "Ora" by the local people, the Dragon is the worldís largest land reptile. Superbly adapted, they reign supreme as the islandsí top predator. The only place on earth you can see these magnificent creatures in their natural environment is Western Flores, a vital part of Indonesiaís past, future and a precious part of the worldís heritage. The 2000 giant reptiles make up the total world population and have the most restricted range of any predator on earth. Reaching 3 meters in length and weighing around 90 kg, an adult will attack and kill water buffalo, deer or wild pigs. |
Travelers are welcomed to enter this sensitive environment to experience one of the worldís endangered species. For your safety, no individual is allowed to enter this region without the accompaniment of a Ranger. Escorting you along a 2.5 km trail, your guide carries his wooden stick to poke an aggressive dragon into retreat. For your protection, red clothing is forbidden to beworn on the island, as the dragon has been known to mistake it for blood. Hiking boots are suggested for this comfortable trek, which is suitable for all ages. Following this great adventure our boat will take you to lunch at the beautiful Pink Beach. A deserted tropical beach where particles of red coral wash ashore, mixing with the white sand to cast a majestic pink hue to the beach. |

Rinca Island Tour |
This tour is recommended
for individuals who are in excellent health and enjoy trekking
along a trail built by the water buffalo (hiking boots are suggested).
A little over 5 km, the trail will lead you across the river
where the buffalo find refuge from the intense sun. |
Winding to the top of the hills, the grassy plains support many
buffalo and wild horses. A panoramic view of the many island
including Komodo will be enjoyed from this vantage point.
Rinca Island is also inhabited by the Dragon, and for your safety,
no individual is allowed to enter this region without the accompaniment
of a Ranger. Escorting you along the trail, your guide
carries his wooden stick to poke an aggressive dragon into retreat. For your protection, red clothing is forbidden to be worn on the island, |
as the dragon has been known to mistake it for blood. Following this enjoyable trek our boat will take you to lunch at the semi-deserted tropical island of Bidadari. You will be asked to share your lunch with the local residents and a most appreciated gesture would be to place drinking water in a coconut shell. Your lunch guests are small tree monkeys. This island is surrounded by beautiful coral and tropical fish, making snorkeling a must |
