Candi Sawentar, at Garum, Blitar
The region of Blitar , to the sounth of Mt. Kelud, is rich in historical remains. Among them are Candi Sawentar at Garum, Candi Sumberjati at simping, Bara, and a gateway to an ancient Buddhist monastery at Wlingi. All these date from the 13 th and 14th centuries. Also to be found in Blitar is the tomb of Sukarno, the proklamator of Indonesian independence and the country's first president. To the north of the town lies east java's most impressive temple complex, Candi Penataran
